The Arias Law Group is firmly dedicated to giving back to the local community by taking part in various charitable activities. The law office is especially passionate about increasing educational opportunities for South Florida’s children, which is why the firm is a top sponsor of the Russell Education Foundation, a local charity which provides educational assistance to underprivileged youth all across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties.
On April 10th and 11th, the Arias Law Group was a title sponsor for the 14th Annual Links for Literacy Golf Classic. The event kicked-off with a VIP Party and Silent Auction at Dave & Buster’s Hollywood, where the Arias Law Group, along with various other sponsors and community leaders, gathered together for food and drinks, while getting to meet and mingle with former NFL and collegiate players. As a title sponsor, the firm’s managing partner, Kelly Arias, Esq. took the stage, where she talked about her own story of overcoming adversity to become a partner at Arias Law Group, and later thanked those in attendance for their support.
“I think this an amazing foundation and we are really glad to be a part of it and we hope to be a part of it for years to come,” said Arias during her speech.
“It was a really impressive turnout at the kick-off party and it was amazing to see how much the community supports this organization,” said Jeffrey C. Hagans, Esq., an attorney at the Arias Law Group who attended the event. “Aside from having fun, the firm got to see some of the kids in the program and their parents come up on stage and say how the program has benefited them. It was a truly heartfelt experience to see the smiling faces of the kids we are trying to help.”
The next day, more than 200 participants took part in the Celebrity Golf Tournament. The event raised more than $68,000 to help fund the Russell Education Foundation’s various education programs.
Daniel Drazen, Esq., an Arias Law Group attorney who also took part in the event said he was very impressed by some of the fun and creative ways to donate, such as a golf ball ‘bazooka’, which let players launch golf balls instead of hitting them with a golf club. Players could also ‘Buy a Mulligan’ which let players redo their previous golf swing for a donation.
“I was very happy to give back. This is truly a great charity to help underprivileged kids and I’m very happy our firm made a substantial donation,” said Drazen.
In 1998, former Miami Dolphins linebacker Twan Russell and his mother Corliss established The Russell Life Skills and Reading Foundation, which aimed to improve the reading skills of under privileged kids in South Florida. Today, the foundation has nine centers across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, where students receive individualized attention in a small group setting from certified instructors. The organization also founded the ‘Dragonfly Darlings’, an initiative which provides support and resources for the families of children participating in the program. In 2015, the organization changed its name to the Russell Education Foundation to reflect its expansion into the areas of math and science.
Among the group of instructors who taught the children was Brion Ross, Esq., an associate at Arias Law Group and member of the Russell Education Foundation’s Board of Directors.
“Twan Russell and I go to church together. He asked for my help in the organization as a teacher. A few years later, after I received my license to practice law, Twan asked me to come to a board meeting for the organization and I loved it,” said Ross.
Last fall, Ross introduced Arias Law Group partners Angel and Kelly Arias to Russell and said they “hit it off instantly.”
“I later took Angel and Kelly to one of the foundation’s schools and they loved it. It’s a really positive atmosphere for the kids,” said Ross.
“The Arias Law Group played a huge role in helping us raise $68,000 for the organization,” said Russell. “There was no way we could reach that number without them. I am grateful and excited about our partnership.”
The Arias Law Group is firmly committed to giving back to the community by investing in educational opportunities for South Florida’s youth. Through organizations like the Russell Educational Foundation, the Arias Law Group looks to support programs that foster children’s interest in math, science and reading. The Arias Law Group believes that by helping children reach their full potential academically, it can ensure that they have the skills necessary to be successful adults in the future.
